Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 October 2026
The short version: Portmole has no telemetry and no analytics. What runs on your Mac stays on your Mac. We only learn about you if you buy Pro (your name, email, country and order details, from our payment provider) or email us.
This policy explains how techynAR (“techynAR”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the Portmole app for macOS, Portmole Pro, and the website portmole.techynar.com. techynAR is the data controller (or “data fiduciary”) for the information described here. Contact: aryan@techynar.com.
1. What the app does not collect
Portmole contains no telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code. We do not collect usage statistics, and we never see which ports, processes, commands, projects or folders you have.
2. What stays on your Mac
To do its job, Portmole reads the list of processes listening on network ports, their commands and working folders, and the page titles of your local servers. It also stores your settings, starred servers, Recent list and license status. All of this is processed and stored only on your Mac and is never sent to us or anyone else. Deleting Portmole and its preferences removes it.
3. When the app uses the network
Portmole makes only these network connections:
- Your own localhost servers. To show a dev server’s page title, Portmole requests that page from the server on your Mac. These requests do not leave your Mac.
- Update check (GitHub), once a day. Portmole fetches release information and, when you update, the new version from GitHub. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and basic request details (such as time, app version and macOS version in the user agent) to GitHub, which may log them under GitHub’s privacy statement. You can turn automatic update checks off in Settings.
- License activation and validation (Dodo Payments). When you activate Portmole Pro, Portmole sends your license key and your Mac’s name to Dodo Payments’ license service. Each time Portmole starts with Pro active, it sends your license key and that activation’s ID to confirm the license is still valid; if you deactivate a Mac, it sends the same two values to free that activation. This lets us enforce the 3-Mac limit and lets you see your activations. Dodo Payments also sees your IP address as part of each request.
The app makes no other network connections.
4. What the website collects
portmole.techynar.com uses no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising and no cookies. The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server logs (such as IP address, browser user agent, requested page and time) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, under Vercel’s privacy policy. Download links take you to GitHub, which handles the download.
5. Purchases
Portmole Pro is sold through Dodo Payments, the merchant of record. Dodo Payments collects and processes your payment card or other payment details, billing information and tax information under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your full card details. From Dodo Payments we receive your name, email address, country, and order information (product, price, tax, date, license key and refund status).
6. How we use information
- to deliver and activate your Pro license and enforce its limits;
- to process refunds and handle support requests you send us;
- to keep records required for accounting, tax and legal purposes;
- to prevent fraud, license abuse and misuse of Portmole.
Our legal bases are performing our contract with you, complying with legal obligations, and our legitimate interest in preventing fraud and abuse. We do not send marketing emails unless you ask for them, and we do not use your information for profiling or automated decision-making.
7. Sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Portmole (Dodo Payments for payments and licensing, GitHub for distribution and updates, Vercel for hosting, and our email provider when you contact us), when required by law or to protect our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, in which case this policy will continue to apply.
8. Retention
We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license is active and afterwards as long as needed for tax, accounting and legal obligations (typically up to 8 years). Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you and then deleted. Information stored on your Mac is kept until you delete it.
9. Security
We use reputable providers, HTTPS for every network request, and limit access to the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires.
10. International transfers
techynAR is based in India, and our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses offered by those providers.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, update or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Specifically:
- EU, UK and EEA (GDPR / UK GDPR): the rights above, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): the right to access information about your personal data, to correction, completion, updating and erasure, to grievance redressal, and to nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity.
To exercise any of these rights, or to raise a grievance, email aryan@techynar.com. We will respond within the time the law requires (usually within 30 days) and may need to verify your identity first. For information held by Dodo Payments, GitHub or Vercel you can also contact them directly.
12. Children
Portmole is a developer tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version takes effect when it is posted on this page with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we will make that clear on this page.
14. Contact
